Activities and Events


Small Business Owners—Interested in securing a loan to establish and/or build a business? Local entrepreneurs in need of financial and technical assistance should contact Wheeler Creek to find out about its Micro-Loan Program. The program provides small business owners with one-on-one counseling, business education seminars, group instruction, and financial loans.

Healthy Lifestyles—A new health initiative sponsored by the Consumer Health Foundation is looking for female head-of-households seeking to obtain the skills and motivation to change their lifestyles. The Preventative Healthcare Project is a joint effort by Wheeler Creek CDC and the Community Health Foundation to assist women in the community improve their make better lifestyle choices and health. Classes will begin in September.

Sierra Club—Parents interested in having their child(ren) between the ages of 6-12-years-old participate in the wilderness adventures sponsored by the group should contact Wheeler Creek CDC. The nation’s largest grassroots environmental organization brings their program to the Wheeler Creek Community Center on the third Saturday of each month. WHEELER CREEK PARTNERS WITH THE NATIONAL MOTTEP

Wheeler Creek CDC has established a new health partnership with the National Minority Tissue Transplant Education Program. The National MOTTEP which promotes organ and tissue donation by minorities has selected Wheeler Creek as one of the five host/ community sites for its Howard University Telehealth Hypertension Program. Currently, the National MOTTEP is recruiting 300 District residents for the program. Eligible individuals must be a DC resident, 18-65 years old, and diagnosis with High Blood Pressure.
