Two years ago… It was the international year to commemorate the struggle against slavery and its abolition.
U.S. President George W. Bush was re-elected to another term in office by defeating Democratic challenger Sen. John Kerry.
Coretta Scott King accepted the Congressional Gold Medal of Honor, the highest award bestowed by the Legislative Branch of the United States government, for herself and her late husband, civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
And, as a community we came together to begin the process of revitalizing our neighborhoods through the establishment of the Community Supportive Services Program (CSSP).
Two years later…
We remain committed to our residents, utilizing every resource available to improve the economic condition here, and most importantly we remain steadfast in our mission of increased self-sufficiency and homeownership for our clients.
During that last two years, we have been able to accomplish much—residents have qualified for and become first-time homeowners, former public assistance recipients are now earning a living wage as a result of having participated in the job training and placement programs, and we have provided youth in our communities with alternatives to the street life. But there is still much that needs to be accomplished. But in order to make that happen, we need You.
We want You to be a part of our successes. We want you to be a part of these revitalized communities. We want to encourage you to join this program. Whether your interests lies in job placement, homeownership, computer training, health issues, community activities, or youth programs, we have set-up a means by which you can find the answers to your concerns.
As I said, in our first newsletter, “our commitment to the success of this program is unchallenged.” Let me add, our commitment to You is unchallenged. We always have been.
Two years and counting...
