Computer Literacy Program Expanding
Computer literacy is an essential part of our world. Our present
as well as our future. Whether you want to increase your career
choices, keep current on technology, or if you just want to communicate
with family and friends via the internet - a computer is critical
to 21st century life.
Residents interested in becoming computer literate as well as
residents looking to enhance their computer skills now will be
provided the opportunity to do just that through the recently
expanded computer training program.
A joint effort by the Community Supportive Services Program (CSSP)
and the District of Columbia Housing Authority (DCHA), the new,
fully staffed computer training hub with 10 -15 computers is scheduled
to open in April at the Frederick Douglas Recreation Center, located
at 1886 Frederick Douglas Court S.E.
DCHA's Mr. Omari Monteilh, Manager of the Neighborhood Network
Center (NNC), is overseeing development of the facility. He says
the purpose is to "teach (clients) how to use computers to
improve their job marketability, job performance, and overall
lifestyle." Ultimately, Mr. Monteilh says "We're trying
to
develop a wireless community so that all residents will
have access to the internet from their homes."
