CSSPs Applaud Residents Successes

Your Community Supportive Services Program (CSSP) sites are continuing to experience great success among the hard-working clients who are choosing to make the best of every opportunity! Here - are just a few.

Eastgate CSSP resident Ms. Linda Willis was recently hired by the nationally recognized tax firm H&R Block! Despite having a difficult time not only physically as a result of hip replacement surgery but financially as well as a result of a long period of unemployment, Ms. Willis is now a Client Services Coordinator with the firm. And she's grateful for the support she's received from her CSSP and Case Manager Mr. Kevin Newton. "I have regular meetings with Mr. Newton, he's a great person; and I've been in the HomeBuyers Club."

Ms. Sharon Nelson is a Capital Gateway CSSP resident who recently put a deposit on a new home. How will this change her life? "A lot!" says Ms. Nelson. "My sister and I got tired of just paying rent and not seeing any fruit from it. Now, we'll be homeowners and that will help us financially." Ms. Nelson says thanks to her Case Manager Ms. Lynette Wood, both she and her sister are in the HomeBuyers Club.

One of the many success stories coming out of Henson Ridge CSSP site is Ms. Victoria McIlwain, who secured an exciting new job opportunity with Strittmater Management, Inc. "I did a resume," explains Ms. McIlwain, "and gave one to (her Case Manager, Mr.) Kevin Newton, and (Business Development Coordinator, Mr.) Michael Clarke. Mr. Newton came to me with a job." And, says Ms. McIlwain, "there's opportunity to move up. And, now I'm able to put money into…things I've been wanting and couldn't get... such as a house!"

Also among the CSSP residents' successes is 13-year- old Mr. Mark-Alexander Moody of Capper Carrollsburg CSSP. Young Mr. Moody has been accepted into the People to People Ambassador Program. As a participant in the program, the youngster will visit Australia for 18 days this summer. His Mother, Ms. L. Anita Moody is excited for her son, who she says, "will meet Heads of State, and other VIP's of Australia." Young Mr. Moody believes "it will help my education, help me see better sights!"

District Council Member Mr. Adrian Fenty has made a donation towards the youngster's tuition and Case Manager Ms. Veronica Proctor is also looking for donations to help Mark-Alexander take advantage of this rare opportunity.
